More To Read

Like me, you're a lover of history, and a of good story. So, I'm being cheeky enough to offer you some more of both, from the same pen that has put all of the surrounding stuff together. And with the amount of traffic that this site has generated - what can I say - I thought it'd be worth a shot to put this up! (And trust me, I'm still plugging away on new rounds of FH research, nowhere near done yet.)

I have four novels out there in the world, all published recently, and each with a flavour of "family" and "history" because - well, because it's what I love to write about. In this case one memoir, two semi-biographicals, and one set in the past but "using" many people I knew well as the characters. All four are available in paperback on the Abe Books website, and as e-book on Amazon and Kobo (tags below). And for Aus readers, they're in each State's lending library system.

"THE PROLOGUE OF JEMMA RAGLAN"

This is the memoir, of a girl's rather harrowing childhood from age 3 to 13, set in the 1940s and early 1950s, Australian but with an Irish back story. This is a gutsy kid, and it was an absolute privilege to be given her story to write.

"THE HOUSE IN GONDWANALAND"

Semi-autobiographical, fiction-based-on-fact - one of those. All of you who passed through the old place at 61 Fosters Rd, you'll recognise the house and maybe some of the people, and anyone at all over the age of 75 will probably remember a childhood set in the trying times of Post-War Reconstruction, when we had to carve out new lives while putting our families back together.

"NORTH AND WEST OF MELROSE STREET"

This was first published by Simon & Schuster back in 1993, to some acclaim, and now re-released, although both first and second edition is available in paperback at Abe Books . This one's time is the 1930s to the 1990s, again semi-autobiographical, of two young men and the connection that they share, but don't realise it.

"MYTHS, SINS, AND COSMIC MACHINERY"

Sub-titled "The Story My Grandfather Told Me", this is all fiction, but a story that covers several generations, and set in a secluded valley that contains a way of life - and a secret - that finally comes apart in an eruptive ending. And if you think you recognise anyone, I'm claiming it's purely coincidental.
