c 1715 – John, the
father of the Ezekiel Edmonds of the 1767 will, was born [guess assuming he was
about 25 yrs older than his son, making him about 55 at time of the will]
c 1715 - The Ezekiel
Edmonds who married Ann Stevens in 1740, if he was say 25 at the time, would
have been born, probably in Bradford-on-Avon
[a]

1720 - The Sarah
Edmonds who was buried in Br-on-Avon
(aged 85) in 1815, was born [a]
c1735 – The father of
Elimelech Edmonds probably born [if say 25yrs older than his son]
c 1740 ? – The Ezekiel
Edmonds who made the will in favour of his father John in 1767 (but doesn’t
mention a wife or children) was born ?
[guess assuming he was say about 30]
c 1740 ? – The Ezekiel
Edmonds who mar Ann Guy in 1765 was born [if aged abt 25 ?] [guess]
c 1740 ? – The Ezekiel
Edmonds who mar Ann Little in 1767 was born [if aged abt 25 ?] [guess]
13/6/1740 - An Ezekiell
Edmunds bapt in Bradford-on-Avon Anglican "as an adult" (3 weeks
before, and as a condition of!?, his marriage below?) [a]
7/7/1740 - An Ezekiell
Edmunds married an Ann Stevens in Bradford-on-Avon Anglican church [a]
c 1760 - The Elimeleck
Edmunds (the father of my John) who married an Ann Bennett in the Br-on-Avon Church in 1782, wa born
[assuming he was about 22 at the time]
[a]
1765 - An Ezekiel
Edmonds (born say 1740?) married an Ann Guy in Br-on-Avon [a]
(Considering
the following Ezekiel marriage to an Ann Little, did Ann Guy die soon after
marriage, pos in childbirth??)
30/5/1767 – An Ezekiel
Edmonds of Br-on-Avon,
Scribbler, widower, married an Ann Little of Clyffe Pypard (abt 10km SW of Swindon)
Wilts, widow, in Br-on-Avon. Bondsman James Kelson, Broadweaver Br-on-Avon [g]
2/6/1767 - An Ezekiel
Edmonds ("Scribbler" of Bradford) mar an Anne Little at (of) Cliffe
Pypard Wilts (witn James Kelson, Broadweaver of Bradford) [k]
Dec 1769 - An Ezekiel
Edmonds (no place or occupation stated, but the Freshford website believes this
to be a Bradford will) made a will giving his father (the only relationship
stated) John Edmonds his estate, and making him the executor, but apparently
leaving his watch and £10 to a John Clark Edmonds, £10 to a Sarah Edmonds, and
£10 to a "Jonnar Durut" (?), witn by an Edward White and a John
Long. [b]
(An Edward White [122] was
the father of Mary White the mother of Ann Bennett. He would have been of the generation before the Ezekiel
Edmonds in the will above.)
No
wife is mentioned in this will, which is very short, and the size of the estate
not defined, although generally people at that time with little assets made no
will at all. And it's unusual to make
the father the executor, suggesting premature ill health (although he lived for
about another 3 years?) and had no wife or adult (or any?) kids to leave it to?
If this Ezekiel was say only
30-ish, born say 1735-1745, and say his father was 25 yrs older than him, then
John would've been born abt 1715-1720?
This would suggest he's a generation younger than the Ezekiel who
married in 1740, and was - a childless widower? or a batchelor?
If he was the Ezekiel that
was married in 1740 (bn say 1715) then he would've been abt 55 at the time of
the will, and his father John abt 80!
You'd expect him to find someone with a little more future!? Note that John the father may be the one
that died in 1773, AND Ezekiel's wife Ann seems to have lived until 1785.
(May have no relevance but
there is a lot about John Clark, a minister and clothier of Br-on-Avon, 1682, 1695, in the
Freshford website bits)
10/12/1772 - This will
was proved at London (making "place" at least in southern half of
Eng??) under oath of father John Edmonds (obviously still alive) [b]
(Wilts
IGI 1700-1740 –
John, father John, 1713
Idmiston, 1712 & 1739 Lacock
Sarah, father John, 1702
Sth Newton, 1734 Lacock
Ezekiel, father John,
none in Wilts)
1773 - A John Edmonds
(how old ??) was buried in Br-on-Avon [a]
(Possibly
the father of Ezekiel of the will above ??)
1780 - (Church Rates Br-on-Avon) Jno Hinton listed as landholder, also Edw White. An occupier as "Ced”(?) of Jno
Edmonds" also listed [ j ]
19/8/1781 - An Elimelek
Edmunds of Br-on-Avon mar an Ann
Bennett of Br-on-Avon in parish
church, (both signed), witnesses Mary James and William Bennett [m]
(This Ann Bennett had a father William and
a brother William and an older sister Mary, but no mar on IGI of a Mary Bennett
to a ... James c 1780. A Mary James was
born in Br-on-Avon 1761 to Silas
and Eliz).
27/10/1782 - A John
Edmunds bapt Br-on-Avon to
Elimelek Edmunds and Ann [m]
1782 – John Edmonds
bapt Br-on-Avon to Eli &
Anne [e]
27/1/1785 - Ezekial
Edmunds bapt to Elimelek Edmunds and Ann
[m]
1785 – Ezekiel Edmonds
bapt Br-on-Avon to Eli &
Anne [e]
1785 - An Ann Edmunds
(could be Ann nee Guy or nee Little?) wife of Ezekial Edmunds, died in Br-on-Avon [a]
27/1/1785 - An Elimelek
Edmunds was bapt "as an adult" in Br-on-Avon parish church, along with his infant son Ezekial [m]
(Why didn't he get bapt with his first
son, or at time of marriage??)
1789
– Ezekiel Edmonds (“Snr”, who mar Mary Hart) bapt Br-on-Avon [e]
15/3/1803
– John Edmonds mar Ruth Hinton in Br-on-Avon [a]
1804
– John Edmonds (who mar Mary) bapt in Stoke
[e]
17/2/1824 – The
trustees of an Indenture of Lease connected to the Bradford Baptist Chapel were
“…John Edmonds the elder, Ezekiel Edmonds and John Edmonds the younger
(has to be the brothers), clothiers (and several other local businessmen and
doctors etc) …. of whom John Edmonds the younger and Samuel Munday are
dead….” [n]
(This report appears to have
been written in the 1850s.
Among other trustees for
another older part of the property was John Hinton [dead by time of this
report], clothworker, William Hart the elder, Posthumus Bush, Samuel Stevens,
William Hart the younger.
In 1850 John Edmonds the
younger was still alive. In 1824, when they
served as trustees together he would’ve been about 50, and “John the elder”,
whoever he was, was say 20-40yrs older, which makes him born say
1740-1760? See Pre-Ely file ).

A possible scenario for
the forebears of Elimelech Edmonds...
An Unknown Edmonds couple, born say c1690,
marry say c1710
Their children could
be…
(1) the John Edmonds the “father” in the
1767 Ezekiel will, born say c1710, if he was about 55 at that time, who could
have married (aged 25) say c1735, and…
(2) the Ezekiel who married Ann Stevens in
Br-on-Avon in 1740, born say c1715 if he was abt 25yo at marriage.
The children of John (1) above could
include…
(3) The Ezekiel of the 1767 will, who appears
to be both unmarried and childless at that time and leaves the bulk of his
estate to his father John. If he was say abt 30, then he would have been born
c1735.
(4) The John Clark Edmonds who is
mentioned in Ezekiel’s will, and if born say 1735, and could have married at
say 25yo in 1760
(5) The Sarah Edmonds who is mentioned in
Ezekiel’s will
The children of Ezekiel (2) above and Ann
Stevens could include...
(6) The Ezekiel who married Ann Guy in
Br-on-Avon in 1765 and/or Ann Little in 1767, if he was say abt 25 at the time
and so born abt 1740
The children of either John Clark Edmonds
(4) above, or Ezekiel (6) above, could have included…
(7) Elimelech Edmonds, born say 1760, and
married in say his early 20s c1780/85
(8) John Edmonds “the elder” (as described
in the Trust of 1824), born say 1760 and abt 64 at that time, and also of “the
cottage” in 1780 and abt 20 at that time.
The children of Elimelech Edmonds (7) (and
Ann Bennett) are definitely…
(9) John Edmonds (“the younger” of the
Trust of 1824?, then aged abt 42), born 1782 in Br-on-Avon, and married Ruth
Hinton
(10) Ezekiel Edmonds, born 1785 in
Br-on-Avon, and married Mary Hart
The children of John Edmonds (8) “the elder”
could have included…
(11) Richard Edmonds (born c1780), who
married Joyce King in Br-on-Avon in 1803, and is the definite father of a Henry
Edmonds (born 1810) who is probably the Henry who married Mary Duell, named one
of his children Ezekiel, and took over the old Hinton woollen mills in
Br-on-Avon in 1848.
