4 – Conveyance in fee by William Slater and Robert Beevor, to Thomas Gilbert and William Bennett Edmonds, upon the (trusts?) and for the ends intents and purposes mentioned and expressed or referred to in and by an Award therein recited and to and upon which Real and Personal Estate propery and effects of the late Co-Partnership between the said Wm Slater and Robert Beevor were by the said Award directed to be conveyed and held.

5 – All Sect 80 acres situate near Onkaparinga No 753 in Province Survey B, and granted or conveyed unto William Slater and Robert Beevor by a certain Deed Poll or Land Grant dated 8 May 1841 under seal of Gov Gawler, together with messuages, tenements, buildings, & fences since erected, and also all those several pieces of land in the village of Kensington No 15,16,17,18,19,42,43 and (etc etc) erected and built and now standing and being on No 17.

6 – The premises, and the sum of 10/- to William Slater and Robert Beevor, paid by Thomas Gilbert and William Bennett Edmonds

7 – (nothing)

* * *

   “No 753” is an 80 acre section just south of Clarendon, and the other seems to be seven blocks in the newly subdivided Kensington. Slater & Beevor seem to be transferring both lots to Gilbert & WBE for a nominal fee of 10/-, but no idea why. Debts? (See also 182/160 of 1846)

   Thomas Gilbert was an original 1836 settler and acting Postmaster.

7 – (nothing)

* * *

   Seems like WBE put up half of one of his South Tce blocks (the half that had the dwelling on it) as bond to pay Baker a £76 portion of £150 IOU. John Baker was an early immigrant, successful dealer/trader, eventual big landowner.

   These are four 80 acre sections on the Onkaparinga just below Mt Bold. This appears as though Conway and WBE are using two blocks each to set up their farming partnership. Conway came out on the “Fairlie” with them. Gwynne was a solicitor.  (See the “other side” of this arrangement below in 2/294)

   This is the first Sect at Clarendon, and seems to be some sort of “reverse” of 182/159 back in 1842 (??)
