Now going through the HAINES, FLOWER files...

I found a letter from a Haines descendant, detailing the people in this photo (in Photo Gallery - Haines). It's of George Haines (beard, in the middle front) who emigrated to South Aust with his parents as a boy, and his 12 children, showing their (Married) name, and "Used" name if not their first -
Back Row - Emily Ada "Ada" (Treloar), Matilda Priscilla "Till" (Wilson), Thomas David "David" Haines, Florence Elizabeth "Floss" (Langley), William Martin "Mart" Haines, Feodore Victoria "Feo" (Davis), Mary Edith "Poll" (Longbottom).
Front Row - Mabel Jane "Mabe" (Edmonds), Alice Maria (Gardiner), (father George), Harry Haines, Fanny Louisa (Shearer), Cecelia Hannah "Cis" (Dean).
Also a couple of relevant extracts from the letter...
"...Johanna [Miriam Bawden, the mother of the above 12 kids] lived with her father's brother George Bawden and his wife at Kapunda until she married..."
"...Mona Haines is the grand-daughter in the ["Norman St"] cart photo of George Haines..."
"...the house used as a boarding house in Mills St [in Adelaide] belonged to Great Grandfather Haines [presume she is referring to George Haines' father James Haines] as did a row of old cattages in North Adelaide... Ada [Treloar] and Cecelia [Dean] and Uncle Paddy Dean [presume that's Cecelia's husband] managed the boarding house, Ada was housekeeper and Gwen - that's Fanny's daughter and Mona's mother - was general roustabout..."

This is the link to a George Haines obit 1930, in Trove...
This is a link to an Old Colonists article in Trove, on George Haines' father's brother William Haines of Tea Tree Gully...
With a bit of fossicking, more info on the Haines families can be had from the Trove database, well worth the time if they're yours.

For the beginner, the "Biographical Index of South Australians 1836-1885" can be a good source of material. This link is to the one on file with the LDS (which is free but requires registration, also well worthwhile to the serious rellie hunter), but there are also copies in the Adelaide Library, and in many Adelaide suburban and country library's Family History sections...

And a couple of images I found on a DVD that weren't uploaded into the Photo Gallery in the first round....
