   (Witham is on the A12 NE of Chelmsford, but Purleigh is east of Chelmsford, a little below Maldon!)

31/3/1782 to 30/3/1783 - A Daniel Puplett (who married an Ann) born in Purleigh Essex   [b]
   (Essex has a long history of Pupletts - there's even a Puplett St in Ipswich [f] - and is where `my' Daniel Puplett married and worked)

   (`My' Daniel's wife's name was Ann, and there was a Heald in the "family" section of their son James' wedding signatures)  [e]

   On the fifth day of the third month one thousand eight hundred and eleven Daniel Puplett of Galleywood Common in the parish of Great Baddow in the county of Essex, Miller, son of Thomas Puplett of Purliegh in said county, Farmer, and Elizabeth his wife deceased, and Ann Heald daughter of James Heald of Springfield, Farmer, deceased, and Nancy his wife, took each other in marriage in a publick Assembly of the people called Quakers in the Meeting House at Chelmsford in the presence of us,

   This marriage was solemnized between us,

   (Galleywood and Great Baddow are now suburbs in the south of Chelmsford, Springfield is a suburb on the north side) 

2/5/1815 - A James Puplett born (or bapt?) to Daniel Puplett and Ann (nee Heald) at "Thaxted, Great Bardfield", Essex  [c]
   (Thaxted and Great Bardfield, with Little Bardfield and Bardfield End Green between them, are a cluster of villages ap 10kms NW of Braintree, quite a way north of Chelmsford) 

3/8/1818 - A Charles Puplett born (or bapt?) to Daniel Puplett and Ann (nee Heald) at "Thaxted, Great Bardfield", Essex  [c] 

23/10/1829 - Son James indentured to Huntley's the biscuit makers, in which Daniel is described as "of Chelmsford, a timber merchant"  [g] 

30/1/1840 - Son James married Lucy Perry in Reading with his mother and a Charles Puplett attending (presumably his brother), but not Daniel.  Daniel is "of Chelmsford, a coal merchant"  [e] 

6/6/1841 – Living in one house in Springfield parish in the Chelsforn (Grt Baddow?) of Essex is Daniel Puplett (50, bn Esx), Ann Puplett (56, NOT bn Esx), Maria (Evans? Puplett?) (20, bn Esx, and Sarah Osborn (15, bn Esx)  [h] 

14/12/1842 - Thomas Perry (James' father-in-law) visited Daniel and Ann at Chelmsford, and was "kindly received" and stayed overnight.  James and his wife Lucy came to dinner the next day  [d] 

18?? to 1846 - Son Charles worked in a law office in Epping (in London)  [d] 

Jan to Mar 1846 - Son Charles died of consumption at their home in Chelmsford (Thomas to ....... 8/6/46)  [d]  [a] 

8/6/1846 - Thomas Perry writes "Dan Puplett is quite blind and has been for some time, he seems to have never got the better of that sad illness he had about the time (Alfred Perry) left England (for SA - June 1839).  (Thomas to ....... 8/6/46)  [d]
   (This could account for Daniel not being at his son's wedding?) 

July to Sept 1846 - A Thomas Puplett died at Chelmsford  [a] 

30/3/1851 - A Daniel Puplett living in Broomfield Rd, Chelmsford, (68, born Purliegh Essex), "Formerly Coal & Timber Merchant", ("blind" in side column), with his wife Ann (65, born Winstanley Lancs), "Housekeeper", (with one servant)  [b]
   (Purliegh is ap 3 kms south of Maldon) 

30/3/1851 - A James Heald living on his own in Baddow Rd, Chelmsford, (63, widower, born Wigan Lancs), "Landsurveyor"  [b]
   (Winstanley and Wigan are ap 5 kms apart)
