Husband's General Notes: (36)
From James Jenkins: On 15/3/1809 "died my old friend and relation (by marriage) Daniel Perry, at Woodbridge, baker. He exercised that trade during several years in London, but the want of sufficient success caused him to remove into the country, where he became prosperous and died in comfortable circumstances."

both Quakers, Henry Pritchett and Thomas Perry (1777‑1840): Pritchett came from a local family while Perry was the son of a London baker .... The Millbrook firm very soon collapsed, for in 1810 the partners were reported as having 'absconded and not paid their just debts', and the Quaker Monthly Meeting sent a deputation to interview them. Perry thereupon accused Pritchett of having failed to pay in the additional capital he had promised, but was himself charged with having taken a 'considerable' sum out of the business for his own private use. In the circumstances the Monthly Meeting judged both equally culpable and disowned them.".

Recollections of the Quaker William White: "Joseph Perry had an Ironfoundry in Reading .... the largest manufactory in the town at that time. Then it became Perry & Barrett ‑‑‑ afterwards P.B. & Exall and since then Reading Ironworks Co. PERRY LETTERS (& PAPERS)
This is a collection of full or selected transcripts from letters (that I have, or have seen) that were written to or by the Perry family members in the 1840s/50s. Some are from originals transcribed by Anne Whiteway from some her mother Gwen Moxon (gr-grandaughter of Lucy Puplett nee Perry) had, and some are from the Alfred Perry material in the SA Library Archives (PRG 471). The following is an index of what is possibly the total of the family letters that still exist.
The SA Archives apparently also have Alfred’s diary of his trip out to SA on the “Dumphries” in mid 1839, and the original of Thomas Perry’s family history notebook. I have Thomas Perry’s Geological Notebook (also ex Gwen Moxon).

PRG 471 / 7 – “Misc Papers of Alfred Perry c1840-50”
This is a big flat folder containing many bits of paper, some that look like they’ve come from a notebook, or were loose leaf to begin with. They are-
(1) The original of the reminiscence of John Sims (1689-1758/9) Brass Founder of Houndsditch, that Thomas Perry transcribed into the middle of his “Family History” notebook.
(2) Many notes on the planting pruning and care of fruit trees, probably Alfred’s.
(3) Some 1846 rainfall records.
(4) A list titled “Number of Members of the Society of Friends in the respective Quarterly and Monthly Meetings in Great Britain and Ireland as stated in the British Friend for the twelvth month 1844”, with a list of places and numbers in two columns, all added up, totalling 18,580.
(5) A letter from America by a Joshua Appleby in 1844
(6) Part of a letter from Thomas Perry (has to be to Alfred) “...began days ago but only finished 24/11/1844”, telling of improvements lately in Reading, how Margaret (Alf’s sister) is thinking of leaving (prob B’ham) and going back there, how he (Thomas) is confined to the shop, cold weather
(7) Seven page faces (ap 9”x8” written front and back) titled “Paper read before the Geological Section of the Philosophical Society at Birmingham June 21st 1841 – On the Gravel Beds of the Valey (sic) of the Thames as compared with the Bagshott Heath Sand & Gravel & connected with the Sarsen Stone of the Chalk Downs of Wiltshire and their parts – by Thos Perry.”
(8) What looks like a loose page, written both sides, as five small discrete diary-type notes, each jotting lined off at their end, and dated between ‘94 and ‘99, but also showing at the end of each what looks like 2-3 digit page numbers (eg “p273”).
“Gracechurch Street Meeting 9/11/94” – heavy on religious comments
“Hitchin Meeting 26/10/94” – ditto
“Barking Meeting 18/1/95” – includes “...where the body of John Harvey (of West Ham) was brought... the house could not contain the people so as to get seats...” [This is surely Thomas’s wife’s father]
“23/12/95” (no place) – more religious comments
“1/2/98” (no place) – includes “In the afternoon accompanied by Josh Smith went to the burial of the Widow Perry...” and mentions talking to her children and relatives. [This is most likely the (Mrs) Elizabeth Perry who was buried 1/2/1798 from the Ratcliffe Meeting – source LDS]
“20/6/98” (no place) – mulling over the problems in Ireland.
“13/5/99” (no place) – something about a visit to an old lady in her cabin at “Pt Kinnick” (?) “14 miles from Aberdeen”
One entry is titled “From the Scattergood Memories when Wm Penn came into Pennsylvania the 2nd time...” [William Penn died in 1718]
(9) A scrap, looks like three tries at exact copying a set of words, “...old Palace of late (demolished?) Monestry called St Austain or Augustain without Burgate near Canterbury”, a phrase that appears in Thomas Perry’s “Family Hist” notebook.
(10) A scrap, some kind of “Anecdote” of a religious nature by a James Naylor.
