About this group...

These are British servicemen from WW1, who are each attached to one of the families featured somewhere in these pages, and who we ran into during our research.

What surprised me was that English soldiers - who fought and died in their bloody thousands for their country - don't have a place online where their stories can be told. We've become used to having the excellent RSL "Virtual Wall" program for the Aussie diggers, but England doesn't have an equivalent, not by The British Legion (their RSL), not by the National Archives, not by the Imperial War Museum.

Okay, the IWM have a site, but only for World War One, and it closed to new additions back in 2019. But it doesn't list every serving person but only those who were voluntarily added while the site was operational.

So, we've decided to put their stories together - just "ours" I mean! - and put them up here. And note that most of England's WW1 individual service records was lost during The Blitz, which means that some very patchy alternatives have to be used to put any one serviceman's story together.
