Hurley bits

This is a batch of material we found in the Dunmanway Local History Library in 2017.  If you're already deep into your Irish forebears then you've probably fallen over the modern databases or publications that carry all of this, but still interesting to see the old original records sometimes.

This is a hand written scrap of uncertain origin that outlines the HURLEY lineage, but beware - the bit at the top that links Randal Hurley of Ballinacarriga with the Knocklong Hurleys has been questioned by some of the Dublin boffins of late.  This doubt came (acc to them) from the Anglicised spelling of the two families names, the Knocklong branch finishing up as HURLEY but they say that the West Cork Hurleys should have finished up more like MURLEY. But you have to dig deep and make up your own mind on this.

The next six are local examples from the original records of that 1659 Census, just before most of the Irish estates were taken over and assigned to English supporters of the Crown. (All done without money changing hands, probably to avoid Stamp Duty!)  The full database of this Census can be accessed via one of the tags from one of yesterday's posts.

Most of us have seen these following pages from one of those Pedigree publications - O'Hart's I think - but just in case you missed it....

I have no idea what the story behind this pair is but I snapped it at the time and it may or may not be useful to someone!
